The Family Tree is the debut children’s picture book from author Yasmine Anane
Illustrated by acclaimed illustrator Mark Beech
Set to publish in ‘Summer 2025’
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tiny Tree Books is pleased to announce the acquisition of The Family Tree — a heartwarming tale that celebrates kindness, friendship and the beauty found in our differences. This book marks the debut of author Yasmine Anane and is fully illustrated by Mark Beech.
Worldwide rights to the book were acquired directly from the author by Tiny Tree publisher James Shaw following a round of open submissions. The Family Tree is scheduled for release in summer 2025.
The Family Tree follows Mole as he travels to seek out other creatures just like him. On his journey through the enchanted wood, Mole discovers even more than he could have hoped. About himself, about others, and about the nature of family.
“Our book is a celebration of what makes us unique—and how those differences make us extraordinary,” says Yasmine Anane. “In a world that can feel so divided, this message has never been more important.” James Shaw adds “The Family Tree is a book that’s as thoughtful as it is joyful. Yasmine and Mark have created something truly wonderful.”
Illustrator Mark Smith, who has previously illustrated books by Enid Blyton, Terry Pratchett, Michael Rosen, and Jacqueline Wilson, shares his excitement about bringing the story of The Family Tree to life: “As an illustrator, there’s nothing more rewarding than bringing to life a story that celebrates our differences and the connections we form with one another.” Mark continues: “Mole’s story beautifully captures the essence of kindness and acceptance.”
Set to publish in the summer of 2025, The Family Tree shines a light on found family and the things, big and small that bring us together. “Family is about love, not likeness,” adds Yasmine. “In a world that can feel so divided, this message has never been more important.”
About Yasmine Anane
Yasmine Anane is a storyteller and a true believer in the magic of books.
She is a mother to two busy boys who keep her on her toes as they explore the world around them. Her love for books began as far back as she can remember. For her, stories have always been a way to connect, learn, and make sense of the world.
Growing up half-Agerian, Yasmine was surrounded by diverse cultures, shaping her perspective and deepening her appreciation for the stories that make us who we are. She believes that in a world that can sometimes feel divided, children are our bridge to a brighter future—naturally open, curious, and full of love.
Through her writing, Yasmine hopes to nurture a generation that sees the beauty in differences—because, after all, it’s our differences that make us extraordinary.
About Mark Beech
Mark has been working as a freelance illustrator for over 20 years. Mark always loved drawing from an early age and after school went on to study design and fashion at the University of Reading.
The best part of the course was the design side of things and Mark realised that a career in illustration might be the best way forward, which was lucky as he was terrible at sewing!
Mark really enjoys working in children’s publishing as there are loads more fun things to illustrate!
Mark has worked with publishers like Hachette, Wellbeck, Penguin Random house, Puffin books, Simon and Schuster to name a few, and he lives in North West England with his 4 month old English bulldog Penny.
