Tiny Tree Welcomes New Children’s Novel by Philip Newth & ‘Stories From Norway’ Re-Release

Acquired a new monster and magic-filled novel perfect for young readers

‘Stories From Norway’ republished for the first time in almost 50 years

Newth’s stories shot to prominence via BBC’s ‘Jackanory’

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tiny Tree is pleased to announce the acquisition of two books from esteemed Anglo-Norwegian author Philip Newth. The deal includes the worldwide rights to Newth’s classic ‘Stories from Norway’ collection alongside a brand new junior fiction novel — ‘Erin the Reluctant Witch Versus the Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space’. Rights to both titles were acquired directly from the author and both books will publish on December 7th 2023.

Originally published in 1974, ‘Stories from Norway’ returns to bookshelves after almost 50 years. The award-winning author’s re-telling of classic myths and folk stories rose to prominence courtesy of the BBC children’s television series ‘Jackanory’ having been narrated by Doctor Who actor John Pertwee.

“It’s a privilege to be able to work with an author as cherished as Philip Newth. To be able to publish these timeless stories for them to be shared with a new generation is a pleasure,” says James Shaw, publisher at Tiny Tree.

About ‘Stories from Norway

Stories from Norway is a collection of five wonderful short stories from Philip Newth. Each is a re-telling of one of the many fantastical myths and legends of the Nordic people, with trolls, nissens, Hulder Folk and even a Grimen making an appearance.

Republished for the first time since its original 1974 print release, this is a great opportunity to add a true classic collection of stories to any family bookshelf.

Alongside the reissue of ‘Stories from Norway’, rights to ‘Erin the Reluctant Witch Versus the Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space’, a brand new, modern, junior fiction title written by Newth, were also acquired. ‘Erin the Reluctant Witch Versus the Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space’ is the story of a young girl who shuns her magical nature. However, when a strange monster arrives in town, Erin must rely on her powers to save the day.

“The gift of storytelling has never left Philip, I can tell you that. The world and characters he’s created in this new book are wonderful and we can’t wait for readers to get their hands on it,” says James Shaw.

About ‘Erin the Reluctant Witch Versus the Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space’

Erin comes from a family of witches, surrounded by magic from an early age. However, she wants nothing more than to be normal. Erin does not want to be a witch!

When a sinister visitor comes to town, however, Erin is forced to rely on her magical abilities if she wants to protect her friends and family. Accompanied by her ever-faithful raven friend Alfred, Erin embarks on a dangerous investigation that sees her travelling through twisted dreamscapes and facing down a terrifying foe. Now, only by embracing her witch heritage and relying on her magical family can Erin hope to save the day, and be victorious against this Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space.

The opportunity for Tiny Tree to publish Philip Newth’s work was born from the acquisition of the imprint by Andrews UK in April 2023. “It’s been a wonderful opportunity to collaborate across teams, and I hope we get to do more work like this in the future,” adds Tiny Tree publisher James Shaw.

Stories from Norway’ and ‘Erin the Reluctant Witch Versus the Mind Melting Monster from Outer Space’  will release on December 7th 2023.
