Tiny Tree Acquires Time-Hopping Adventure from Dawn Treacher

‘Lost in Time’ is a modern time-hopping middle-grade adventure

A throwback to classic adventure stories

Publishing June 2024.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tiny Tree is thrilled to announce the acquisition of a brand new time-hopping middle-grade adventure from author Dawn Treacher. ‘Lost in Time’, which also features illustrations by Treacher, is set to release in June 2024. Worldwide rights to the book were acquired directly from the author by Tiny Tree publisher James Shaw following a round of open submissions.

Treacher’s novel tells the story of Connie — a twelve-year-old girl who believes her parents are dead. Dementia means that time is shrinking for her Gran, and her Gramps has a secret that he’ll never tell. Little does she know that courtesy of a little white mouse and a strange scientist, Connie is about to become Lost in Time.

“Lost in Time is a classic adventure story written for the modern day,” says Tiny Tree publisher James Shaw. “There are elements of history and old-school sci-fi in here, but it still feels contemporary — almost like the story itself found a time machine”.

Synopsis

For Connie’s Gran, time is shrinking due to dementia, and it’s as if Gramps has a secret he will never tell, but Connie finds living with them pretty ordinary. That is until time itself begins to vanish in front of her eyes!

Thank goodness for her friend, Nevis, a quirky clock shop owner and his one-eyed ginger cat called Captain. With their help, Connie discovers an alarming link between an infestation of white mice and time’s disappearance. Connie’s curiosity thrusts her into a perilous adventure that could unravel the secrets of her past in a world far different from her own. Together with new friends, Connie faces many dangers in search of a way home before her own time runs out.

Lost in Time is an intrepid tale of friendship, family, and embracing what truly matters.

“My books are usually inspired by a single image or character idea” says author Dawn Treacher.  “For ‘Lost In Time’ this was the nursery rhyme, Hickory dickory dock. I asked myself why would a mouse run up the clock? What if it was going to steal time? It set me along a path of asking what is time? What happens it you steal it? Is time infinite or can it run out? It opened a whole debate in my mind about how time affects our lives, why is it important and can it control what we do.” Dawn continues: “I never shy away from the big questions in my children’s books, or danger or peril because children are inquisitive, ingenious and brave and this should be celebrated and shown in stories.”

A thrilling race against time, ‘Lost in Time’ by Dawn Treacher is the latest middle-grade book to be published by Tiny Tree following the successful publications of ‘The Pawnshop of Stolen Dreams’ by Victoria Williamson, ‘Curse of the Dearmad’ by Emma Mylrea, and ‘Pax and the Missing Head’, the gripping opening chapter of David Barker’s ‘London Falling’ series.

“I am thrilled to be working with Tiny Tree,” said Dawn. “I’m delighted to be given the chance to do my own illustration work too.”

‘Lost in Time’ will be published by Tiny Tree in June 2024.
